Score viewer for CPDL work pages
New in this version: the viewer names the voice that is out of step, has an Analysis tab, finds music other works share with any bars you select, lets readers suggest corrections, and shows the reports from CPDL’s discussion pages at their bar. See What’s new.
These are static copies of 38 ChoralWiki (CPDL) work pages, taken from the public wiki dump of
12 November 2020, with one line added: the script CPDL would put into MediaWiki:Common.js. It adds a
View & listen button next to each edition. The viewer opens the score in place — engraved from MusicXML where there is
one, or the PDF — plays it back by voice, marks bars where editions disagree or a bar does not add up, finds similar
works, and searches all of CPDL by melody or sung text. The pages, the viewer and the data are served by Cloudflare
for this demo; the real CPDL site is not changed and is not contacted except when you follow a link to it.

A motet with two editions: read the score, listen, hear one voice on its own, find similar works.
- Laetitia sempiterna (Jacob Handl)Open the score, press Play, and try the voice buttons
What’s new
The viewer now names the voice that is out of step in a bar, notices parts written in an unusual clef or octave, has an Analysis tab (voice ranges, how the words are set, suspensions), finds music that other works share with any bars you select, lets readers suggest corrections, and shows the reports posted on CPDL’s discussion pages at their bar. Each page below shows one of them.
- Beati omnes (Cristóbal de Morales)Suggest a correction: drag a sign from the palette onto a note, see the bar redrawn in pencil before you let go, then send it (open the edition by Lewis Jones)
- Chi vol veder tutta raccolt' insieme (Cipriano de Rore)The file may hold a different piece from the one its page names: the Issues tab says so, quietly
- Mignonne, allons voir (Guillaume Costeley)From bar 12 to 52 the Contratenor’s barlines drift away from the other voices’: one mark for the whole stretch instead of one per bar (open the edition by Gerd Eichler)
- Resonet in laudibus (Jacob Handl)Reports from the CPDL discussion page, marked at their bar with a dashed pencil loop: use the suggested reading, then switch between the original and the corrected score (open the edition by Claudio Macchi)
- Resurrexi (Antonio Nola)The new Analysis tab: 36 suspensions and 17 long melismas to show in the score, each voice’s range and how the piece ends
- Short Communion Service (Adrian Batten)The TENOR goes down to G0 in bar 1, far outside the usual range: perhaps written in another clef or octave (open the edition by John Henry Fowler)
- Sieben Lieder, Op. 62 (Johannes Brahms)6 works share passages with this one; select a few bars to find the same music elsewhere in the collection
- Weiche Gräser im Revier, Op. 65, No. 8 (Johannes Brahms)A report from the CPDL discussion and a place where the two editions disagree, shown as one item; the report for the whole edition is listed at the top of the Issues tab (open the edition by John Henry Fowler)
- Wenn wir in höchsten Nöten sein (Johann Hermann Schein)In bar 2 the Altus holds a different number of beats from the other voices: the Issues tab names the voice and by how much (open the edition by Gerd Eichler)
Demo: who can do what
Try the viewer as different readers: not signed in, signed in on CPDL, the editor of an edition, or with an ab|takt account.
- Beati omnes (Cristóbal de Morales)Everything written under a demo name, comments too, is removed every Monday. Corrections sent while not signed in stay.
Demo: reports from the CPDL discussion
See the reports from the CPDL discussion pages in the viewer: at their bar, merged with a found difference, or for the whole edition; use a suggested reading, switch between original and corrected, and try the note for the discussion.
- Resonet in laudibus (Jacob Handl)Demo: the note dialog posts nothing, on CPDL or anywhere else.
